Threshold Pain Pressure, Lifestyle, and Stress Level in Higher Education Teachers

Abstract

Introduction: Stress and overload and lifestyle of higher education teachers can cause changes in pain tolerance to pressure. Objective: To observe the relationship between stress level, lifestyle and pressure pain tolerance threshold in higher education teachers. Methodology: This was an observational cross-sectional study in which 28 individuals of both sexes participated. The volunteers answered the EPS-10 questionnaire to assess stress, the Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire, to assess lifestyle and algometric assessment to assess pain tolerance threshold for upper trapezius, scapular spine, sternocleidomastoid, paravertebral T6-T7, paravertebral L4-L5 and occipital base. Pearson (r) or Spearman correlation coefficients were established between the cited variables. Results: There was only a moderate and statistically significant correlation between lifestyle and stress level. The others were weak or very weak. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained in this study with higher education teachers, it can be concluded that lifestyle is related to the stress level of these professionals.
