Technical Analysis of Motor Actions in Young Taekwondo Fighters: Brazilian Championship 2019

Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the motor actions of youth taekwondo (TKD) athletes in the 2019 Brazilian Championship. Twelve combats were analyzed, with 24 male youth athletes, aged between 15 and 17 years, in the heavy category. All matches were analyzed through video, during the Brazilian TKD Championship, in August 2019. The motor actions of basic kicks, round kicks and punches and the preparation time (guard position) and fight were analyzed. As a result, the preparation time was more than 59.3% of the fight time. All recorded motor actions occurred in an average time of 48.8 seconds (40.7%). Each athlete performed an average of 22 combat actions per fight. The largest number of actions occurred in the second round with an increase in the diversity of these actions. In general, basic kicks represented 92.4% of total motor actions during combat. Bandal Tchagui was the most frequent combat action, with an average of 11.5±5.48 kicks per fight, followed by Yop Tchagui (5.2±3.97) and Tolyo Tchagui (3.0±1.68), as the most frequent kicks. Round kicks represented fewer actions per fight (0.17±0.48). There were no differences in motor actions between the rounds, however, in the second stage an increase of 12.9% of the total of actions was observed, with 48.5% of these actions occurring between round kicks and punches, indicating an attempt to obtain a more expressive score with the use of more complex fight blows.
