Association between Vertical Jump Performance and Intermittent Endurance in University Soccer Players
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between lower-limb power and aerobic capacity in university soccer players, and to verify potential differences according to playing positions. Methods: Nineteen university athletes participated in the study. Aerobic capacity was assessed using the Yo-Yo Endurance Test Level I, and muscle power was evaluated through the countermovement jump (CMJ). Data followed a normal distribution, and the correlation between variables was analyzed using Pearson’s coefficient. Results: No significant correlation was observed between the distance covered in the Yo-Yo Test and CMJ performance, suggesting relative independence between aerobic capacity and explosive power. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between playing positions for any of the analyzed variables. Conclusion: In the university context, lower-limb power and aerobic capacity show a relatively homogeneous distribution among players, likely due to generalist training models and similar competitive levels. The adoption of more individualized training strategies is recommended, along with future studies involving larger samples and control over the training period.
