Analysis of Physical and Technical Indicators in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League

Correlation between Variables and Comparison by Phase

Abstract

Performance analysis in soccer has undergone a remarkable evolution, moving from approaches focused on physical or tactical variables to more multidimensional approaches that seek to understand the relationship between the different demands of the game. From this perspective, variables such as goals scored, ball possession and total distance traveled are essential to evaluate collective behavior, the objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of physical and technical-tactical indicators of the UEFA Champions League, a quantitative study was carried out, non-experimental, cross-sectional and correlational-comparative design, aimed at identifying the association of physical and technical variables and the performance of the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 matches, the teams scored an average of 1.63 goals in each game, with high variability, which translates into great differences in offensive effectiveness, on the other hand, the average ball possession was 50%, as for the distance traveled, there was an average of 117.4 km with wide differences, which means different levels of conditional demand depending on the game or strategy, the findings provide necessary information for the design of training and scouting tasks.
