Adapted Training System in Women with Cushing's Syndrome: Case Study
Abstract
This study evaluated the efficacy of an adapted Functional Training System (FTS) in a patient with Cushing's syndrome using a quantitative, non-experimental, single-case design. The 12-week intervention integrated low-impact exercises, neuromuscular strengthening, and motor control techniques, using a transdisciplinary approach that combined biomechanical, metabolic, and psychosocial principles. The methodology included anthropometric measurements, electrical bioimpedance, hormonal analysis (salivary cortisol), and validated psychometric scales. The results showed significant improvements in multiple parameters: optimization of body composition (fat reduction and muscle strengthening), normalization of cortisol secretion patterns, increased functional capacity (cardiorespiratory endurance and joint mobility), and progress in psychosocial indicators (attenuation of depressive symptoms and strengthening of emotional intelligence). These findings corroborate the viability of adapted SEF as a non-pharmacological therapeutic tool to mitigate the systemic manifestations of chronic hypercortisolism, particularly in clinical contexts with limited resources. The convergence of physiological and psychological improvements positions this comprehensive therapeutic approach as an effective complementary strategy for enhancing quality of life, autonomy, and social inclusion in this complex endocrine disorder, establishing methodological foundations for future personalized interventions. The objective of this article is to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological intervention, through the implementation of an adapted Functional Training System (FTS), in a woman with Cushing's syndrome, to improve her quality of life.
