An X-ray of Forwards: Strategies for Identifying the Top Scorers in Argentine Soccer

  • Francisco Baldinelli Independiente

Abstract

In the Argentine Professional League, unraveling the top scorers requires a deep analysis beyond the table. Key metrics such as goals per minute, conversions, and touches in the box must be considered, along with match context and specific patterns: Miguel Borja scores more in the final minutes, while Adrián Martínez excels in second plays. It is vital to avoid common mistakes such as ignoring the schedule, the impact of injuries, or the psychological history of players. Success stories, such as those of Ávalos and Merentiel, demonstrate the effectiveness of analyzing these factors. Although technology and algorithms are relevant, Argentine soccer requires considering the human factor and patterns such as the concentration of goals in certain periods, going beyond predictions based solely on pure data.
