Association Between Sedentary Behavior and Public Costs of Chronic Diseases: Systematic Review Protocol

Abstract

Introduction: Non-transmissible Chronicles (DCNT's) are considered an important public health problem. Sedentary behavior (SC) is associated with the appearance of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiometabolic diseases, mental illnesses and increased risk of death and death. It is important to note that CS is associated with the development and aggravation of injuries, and that people with greater exposure to CS demand higher health expenses, the relationship between CS and these expenses is not clear. Objective: The objective of this protocol is to synthesize the evidence regarding the association between SB and public costs on NCDs in noninstitutionalized adults and elderly people. The study will include observational, experimental, and quasi-experimental studies and economic evaluations. After identifying the studies, two reviewers will collect the data in a spreadsheet. A third reviewer will analyze the extracted data and merge it. The form will contain information about: authors, year of publication, population, type of study, location of the study, main results, and cost of the intervention. The protocol will use PRISMA-P 2020. The acronym PICOS will be created, and search terms related to SB will be combined with terms related to the type of study. Bibliographic databases will also be included: the Cochrane Library, the National Library of Medicine, Scopus, Web of Science and Sport Discus. Discussion: Heterogeneity and potential study selection bias can be limiting factors, but it is emphasized that the main focus is to synthesize the evidence of the highest methodological quality to support decision-making in public policy.
