Internal Load and Sources and Symptoms of Stress During CrossFit® Athletes Training

A Pilot Study

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the training load responses obtained from the session rate of perceived exertion method (sRPE) and the signs and symptoms of stress from the Daily Analysis of Life Demands in Athletes (DALDA) during four weeks of CrossFit® training. Ten CrossFit® athletes were monitored during four weeks of training. During the weeks monitored the internal training loads of each athlete were evaluated, in which, at the end of all sessions, the sRPE was obtained from the CR-10 scale. In addition, at the end of each week of training, participants completed the DALDA questionnaire. The results showed that the training load and DALDA responses did not present significant differences (p>0.05) between the four monitored training weeks. Therefore, it is concluded that the training loads and DALDA responses were not different in the four weeks of CrossFit® training, indicating a possible relationship between the variables, since no major changes were observed in the responses of loads and sources and symptoms of stress. Concerning practical application, the present study reinforces the importance of training monitoring using valid methods that help coaches, athletes, and CrossFit® practitioners to adequately prescribe training loads.
