El fomento del ciclismo urbano como medida preventiva del sedentarismo

Resumen

La Organización Mundial de la Salud recomienda que las personas mayores de cinco años realicen una cantidad mínima de actividad física semanal para obtener efectos sustanciales en la salud. En Brasil, el ciclismo, con sus diferentes propósitos, es la cuarta forma de actividad física más practicada por los adultos, después de la caminata, la musculación/gimnasia y el fútbol. El ciclismo fue la modalidad que presentó, en la última década, la mayor tasa de crecimiento de nuevos practicantes. Si bien se incrementa el papel de la bicicleta en los procesos de movilidad urbana, no se incrementa el diálogo amplio y claro con las poblaciones para potenciar el uso de la bicicleta como una herramienta segura, eficiente y cómoda para promover la actividad física y la salud. En ese sentido, este ensayo académico se propone presentar la utilidad de algunas acciones que interfieren en la decisión de las personas de utilizar o no la bicicleta, ya sea como medio de movilidad, ocio o transporte. El objetivo de este tema es aprovechar las acciones de los planificadores de movilidad urbana para el desarrollo de programas que permitan a las personas el uso de la bicicleta, ser más activas físicamente y lograr calidad de vida.
